Cigar smokers should beware. Not only is their health in jeopardy by smoking cigars, but cigar smoking can give you bad breath, too.

Sure, smoking a cigar or two may be acceptable to your peer group in some social situations. However, there are a number of people who are actually opposed to the idea of you smoking next to them. Your cigar breath may be one of the major reasons that put people off.

If health reasons aren't enough for you to quit smoking cigars, then consider how bad breath may be affecting your social life. Especially if you're a chain cigar smoker, it's possible that you're repelling people by your oral odor. This could be problematic to your family, friendships, and even your business.

The Making of Tobacco Cigars

The Making of Tobacco Cigars

Tobacco is imported always tightly compressed and apparently quite dry and crisp. Sometimes it is in the form of full leaf in bundles and tied around by one of its own leaves; sometimes the midribs have been been removed- the material is then known as 'strips'. American varieties are exported in these conditions. The more tender kinds such as the Turkish, Chinese and Ceylonese are carefully packed leaf upon leaf.

In the manufacture of cigars, the cigar tobacco leaves after being impregnated with water and steam so that they easily open out are stripped of their midribs, smoothed and sorted, the perfect half leaves being put on one side to be used as wrappers. One of this strips is cut into baloon gore and fragments of the imperfect leaves and cuttingsknown as the 'fillers' being placed at one end, the strip is wrapped round them. Over this is then wound spirally a long narrow rectangular slip called the 'wrapper', connecting at the lighting end and finishing at the pointed or mouth end.

Tobacco smoke or cigar smoke acts in various ways in the human body depending on the time and circumstances of it being consumed. It acts most frequently as a sedative or a narcotic. In some instances smoking cigarettes will rouse the sluggish mind into activity while in others it moderates excessive mental excitement. It will often correct the disagreeable effects of nervousness while on the other hand; it will likewise act as a laxative. The most noticible characteristics perhaps are the effects of smoking on the nervous system in such cases as those in which it is upset by mental distress or anxiety. At the same time it must not be forgotten that there are persons whose nerves are disarranged and quite upset by smoking. By such people the habit should be tabued altogether, others again are only inconvenienced after an excess, while there are those who can stand any amount. But troublesome and incurable symptoms may appear if the habit is persisted in.

Cigar smoking and your health

There are many myths surrounding cancer and cigar smoking and we would be doing ourselves a disservice if we did not make ourselves aware of the health risks. Smoking cigars is bad for our health.

Yes, it is easy to dismiss the health risks and say that we do not inhale so we will not get cancer; but that is only partly true. We may not be at high risk from lung cancer if we don't inhale, but we are at risk from mouth and lip cancer. We can tell ourselves that we only have a cigar occasionally, but, as with a cigarette smoker, nicotine is nicotine. Even the occasional nicotine can cause cancer, and for the cigar smoker, the concentrations of nicotine can be as high, if not higher, than if we smoked a pack of cigarettes for each cigar we smoke.

When it comes to health issues it is not enough to listen to what others have to say about the dangers of cigar smoking. Some people believe there is not any danger at all. Make sure you know about the health risks before you continue to smoke.
